Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner will face each other in the final of the 2024 Australian Open. Both players performed terrifically in their respective semi-final matches against Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic and earned their shot at the title.

Ahead of the final, Daniil Medvedev is of the opinion that his experience of playing in so many Grand Slam finals in the past will probably give him an edge against Sinner on Sunday.

I hope it gives, because I hope to have some advantage. Physical advantage I probably don't have. Tennis advantage, let's see. But three last times he got me. So I hope that this experience can help me. First final, I think it's always different for everyone. I'm sure some guys went out on the first final and felt so good they just managed, I don't know, to win it. There are probably these stories
Medvedev post his semi-final win on Friday

Medvedev has played a total of six Grand Slam finals so far and has won one time, back in the 2021 US Open. The interesting statistic here is that the Russian has only faced either Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in all of his Grand Slam finals before and this is the first time that he will be facing someone else for a change. That might really work in favor of the Russian and he might end up winning his second Grand Slam title. At least that is what he expects.

Some would go and it would be tough mentally and they would lose. I have no idea how Jannik is going to be, but me, myself, I have this experience. I will try my best. I will fight for my life, and let's see who wins.

Jannik Sinner has had a great record against Daniil Medvedev recently

Sinner and Medvedev have played a total of nine matches against each other. Out of those nine matches, Medvedev has won six while Sinner has won three. However, all three of those wins came in their last three meetings and it is a thing of concern for the Russian. Jannik Sinner has defeated Daniil Medvedev in two back-to-back final matches – the China Open and the Vienna Open.

Just like Medvedev has an advantage of playing more Grand Slam finals, Sinner has the advantage of having had a great record against the Russian in the recent past. If he wins, it will be the Italian’s third back-to-back win over the 2021 US Open winner in finals.

However, this will obviously be extra special as it’s a Grand Slam. Moreover, Sinner has lost only one set so far in the Australian Open and that too against Novak Djokovic in the semi-final.
