Daniil Medvedev‘s poor form in finals continues as he loses to Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the 2024 Indian Wells on Sunday. After a hard-fought first set that was decided in the tiebreak, Medvedev lost the second set pretty convincingly as the Russian’s search for silverware continues.

Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, was able to redeem himself in this tournament. He was finally able to take his revenge against Daniil Medvedev for the US Open 2023 semifinal defeat. With this, he has also now won the Indian Wells title twice in a row, bringing an end to a rough trophyless patch.

Alcaraz showed much character throughout the tournament and defeated Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. His victory against Sinner in the semis was particularly remarkable, as the Italian was one of the favorites to win the tournament and it was his first loss of the year. It was indeed a statement victory for the Spaniard.

Talking about Medvedev, he somehow always managed to lighten the mood after tough defeats and that is exactly what he did after losing to Alcaraz in the final as well. He jokingly said that as his wife and daughter were on a plane while he was playing his match, they could not give him the necessary power to win the final.

My wife and daughter were on a plane. So maybe they didn’t give me power today because they were in the air. No energy.

As it turns out, the final of the 2024 Indian Wells Men’s Singles event was almost like a replay of last year’s final. Even in the 2023 Indian Wells final, the same two men squared off against each other, and it was Alcaraz who registered a straight-set victory to lift the title. Talking about that, Medvedev wished that he does not face Carlos Alcaraz in the upcoming Indian Wells finals.

I want to congratulate Carlos. Congrats to you and your team.. Hopefully one day you can let me play a little better here or maybe I won’t play you in the final. So far, it doesn’t work.

The Russian No. 1 will now shift his focus to the 2024 Miami Open, which starts in a few days. He is the defending champion in the tournament and will finally hope to end his trophyless season run there.
