In a rather interesting turn of events, the finals of the 2024 Australian Open took an unexpected yet much-awaited turn after Jannik Sinner won the third set. The World No. 4 had conceded the first two sets and looked set for a straight-set defeat. However, interestingly enough, the match is yet to be done.

Daniil Medvedev made the most of his Grand Slam finals experience and took early charge of the match. He won the first two sets 6-3, 6-3, before Sinner won the third at 6-4. The two men could not be separated until the 11th game, when the Italian broke the Russian at 5-4 to win the set and force a fourth set.

Medvedev expectedly took an extra-long break. The fourth seed signaled the chair umpire to note the time, but there was no penalty imposed on the Russian. He, however, had worse things ahead of him.

Upon the conclusion of the third game of the fourth set, Medvedev had to call for his medical team. He was seen without socks on his right leg as the physio team checked his foot for a possible case of blisters.

He was, however, given some basic treatment and cleared to continue playing in the finals. With two finals defeats in the last three years of playing at Melbourne Park, the Russian won’t stop unless there’s a clear winner between the two men.

Fans express their concerns for Daniil Medvedev

The image of Medvedev receiving treatment quickly went viral on social media. Fans were quick to show sympathy towards the Russian, who has been nothing but sensational in the final so far.
