Novak Djokovic recently posted a selfie of him and Rafael Nadal on his Instagram page and it took the tennis world by surprise. The caption of the post made it clear that the two players happened to take the same flight to Los Angeles, where they were going to prepare for the upcoming 2024 Indian Wells. They met in the business class of the plane and the post broke the Internet in no time. Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev has now reacted to the incident.

He said that he was equally shocked by seeing the post and had multiple questions in his mind. He first wondered why the two players were together and why they were going to the Indian Wells tennis garden to practice with so many days left until the tournament. He then came to the conclusion that it must have been a coincidence because they surely didn’t plan this beforehand.

First of all, I was surprised. Where are they going so early. Indian Wells? Why so early? It's fun. I guess they didn't for sure talk to each other before to choose the same flight. I guess it was a surprise for them.

Both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are making their return to the Indian Wells this season. The Serb last played in the tournament five years ago. He is the most successful player in the history of Indian Wells alongside Roger Federer, with 5 titles.

Nadal, on the other hand, has won it three times. When he last appeared in the Indian Wells, i.e., in 2022, he became the runner-up.

Daniil Medvedev will look to win the Indian Wells this season

Medvedev is only one of six players to have won more than 6 different ATP Masters titles. Last year, he was the runner-up of the Indian Wells after suffering an unfortunate defeat against Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the tournament. This time, the Russian will look to finish the unfinished job from last year and win the ATP 1000 event.

Medvedev has consistently been one of the best players in the world lately but hasn’t won a silverware in a long time. He has now lost to back-to-back Grand Slam finals, i.e., the US Open 2023 final against Novak Djokovic and the Australian Open 2024 final against Jannik Sinner. It is now high time that he starts pulling clutch performances in finals.
