World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev was plagued with a nosebleed once again in the semi-final match against Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Vienna Open. However, this was not the only mishap during the match. His opponent was seen fixing his shoe after a grueling first set.

Medvedev and Tsitsipas were put against each other after successfully defeating their opponents in the quarter-final. The higher-ranked Russian had defeated his compatriot Karen Khachanov in the quarter-final match in three sets. Tsitsipas was successful in his thrilling match against Borna Gojo. While the match went on for just two sets, both ran to tie-breakers, with both players displaying the best tennis.

However, the semi-final match proved to be equally tough for Medvedev and Tsitsipas. Medvedev was struggling as he was nursing a nosebleed in the match. However, this was not the first time the former World No. 1 had a nosebleed. The Australian Open 2023 saw him struggle with the same ailment in his match against Pedro Martinez.

Stefanos Tsitsipas on the other hand, was struggling with issues of his own. He was seen mending his shoe following a tough campaign at the hard courts on Vinenna. However, despite his efforts to draw out the tenure of his shoe, he was not able to see success in the match. It was ultimately the higher-ranked Russian who made it to the final of the tournament.

Medvedev won the semifinal of the Vienna Open

Russia’s Daniil Medvedev defeats Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-final of the Vienna Open. He defeated the Greeks with a score of 6-4, 7-6 to claim his spot in the final match of the tournament.

Medvedev will aim to defend his title at Vienna. The self-proclaimed ‘Hardcourt specialist’ waits to find out who his opponent will be. He will play against the winner of the semi-final match between Jannik Sinner and Andrey Rublev.

Either player will prove to be a tough opponent for the World No. 3. While the Russian was defeated by Sinner in the Shanghai Masters final, that was the first win the Italian registered against his opponent. On the other hand, Rublev has also had quite a few encounters with his friend and compatriot. While Rublev’s win count against Medvedev is higher compared to Sinners, the World No. 2 still dominates both players statistically.
