The 2024 Australian Open final is well underway as two talented stars battle it out for their maiden title in Melbourne. World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev took on young Jannik Sinner in an all-exciting final. 

From the very beginning, Medvedev started firing his shots. With a couple of early breaks followed by strongholds, he took a major lead well into the match. Following this momentum, the Russian continued his amazing groundstrokes that kept his opponent on the back foot.

After a double break in the second set, Sinner tried to come back but fell to the consistency of Medvedev. With only one set needed to win the match, Medvedev was well ahead of his opponent. Interestingly enough, this situation felt like deja vu for the tennis fans, as they witnessed the same back in 2022, but with a different player. 

Medvedev had a comfortable 2-0 set lead against Rafael Nadal at the 2022 Australian Open finals but lost his lead and suffered a loss after coming within touching distance.

Fans believe that Sinner might pose for the same kind of comeback as Nadal did two years ago. But with Sinner not at his best, fans doubt the possibility of a comeback.

Daniil Medvedev outplays Jannik Sinner in the first two sets

From the get-go, it was only the Daniil Medvedev show at the Australian Open finals. Having lost his last two finals, a third time might be the charm for the 26-year-old.

After losing two back-to-back finals in 2021 and 2022, he is only a few games away from his maiden Australian Open title. Starting with great form, the Russian was consistent with his service games and even broke early in the first two sets. His consistency impacted the game of his opponent and left Sinner clueless.

With over 84% of first-serve points, Medvedev has a comfortable 2-set lead in the finals against the Italian. With only one set to his maiden title, the Russian continues his hold.

With perfect execution of a variety of shots, Medvedev displays his reason to be in the finals. On the cusps of creating history, the Russian is thriving with perfect form.
