The 2 Australian Open is almost at the end as the draw of 128 people has come down to their last two people. While Jannik Sinner had already sealed his final position, it was time for the second match of semi-finals to decide his opponent. Alexander Zverev was up against his arch-nemesis Daniil Medvedev to try and secure his career-best position.
After a deadly start, Zverev was up two sets, and inches away from sealing the game in straight sets. He was one step closer to the finish line but was pulled back by his opponent. Medvedev fought into the match right back. From two sets down, he fought deuce to deuce, winning the tiebreak and getting back into the match and with what style.
After a few long rallies and power-packed winners, the Russian carried his momentum into the tie-break. From losing his chance to make it to the finals, he broke Zverev right back in the 7-point tie-break with a pin-point drop shot off his deadly serve.
Known for extremely fast serves, Zverev shot another 196 km/hr serve at Medvedev who calmly sliced it, dropping the ball as close to the next as possible. It worked and he won the point of his opponent’s serve. Following the epic drop shot, he sent out a thunderbolt serve to claim another set, taking the match into the deciding fifth set.
