David Ferrer recently talked about wanting to put Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal together as a team for the upcoming Davis Cup. Ferrer is the captain of the Spanish team in Davis Cup and he recently talked about the tournament, which is set to commence in November, in his recent interview. 

“Yes, without a doubt. But not only as captain but also as a fan and for the tournament, that this competition had these two world-class players. Rafa is the best in the history of our country and one of the best ever. And Carlos is on his way to being one of them. I would love to have and live for the opportunity to have both of them,” David Ferrer said about the idea of bringing both sensational players together.

Carlos Alcaraz is currently regarded as the best player in the world while Rafael Nadal is hands down one of the biggest legends in the sport has ever produced. Bringing these two players together in a team is massive for both the fans and the Spanish team alike. 

The Davis Cup is a tennis tournament that is highly regarded as the World Cup of Tennis and is played between teams from over 140 nations. The best players from every nation team up to take part in the tournament. The USA has won the Davis Cup the most number of times (32), while Spain has won it six times. This year, Spain has a very strong contingent, as World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz is on their team. Canada is currently the defending champion of the Davis Cup.

David Ferrer hints at Rafael Nadal’s potential return in the Davis Cup

Rafael Nadal has been off the court with a hip injury for over eight months now. He last appeared at the Australian Open. His recovery took way longer than expected and currently, he is still undergoing the process.

Nadal has already announced that 2024 will be his last season as a player and thus fans are praying for his speedy return. In such a situation, David Ferrer has claimed that there is still a good chance of Rafael Nadal playing in the Davis Cup and that he is in constant contact with the player. 

“I don’t see it far, I see it difficult. If we qualify, hopefully they will have the option to see how Rafa is. I don’t see it as a utopia,” Ferrer concluded.
