American tennis player Tommy Paul has had to sweat hard for every win at the 2023 US Open. His all three matches so far have been thrilling encounters and fortunately for the 26-year-old, he has ended on the right side of the result on all three occasions. While his temperament has played a big role in Paul’s survival, the fans’ support for the local boy has also helped the American.
Among many, a young kid has grabbed Tommy Paul’s attention for his consistent support for the 26-year-old American. The little kid has been coming to all the Tommy Paul matches and has been captured rooting heavily for the American. The kid was also seen animatedly celebrating every point won by Paul during his third-round match, against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
This has not gone unnoticed by Paul who said that he won’t be playing a match without the little kid in the stands. After his thrilling win over Fokina, Paul acknowledged how the little kid believed in him even when he was two set down against Roman Safiullin. Paul then said that the kid had to come back as he wouldn’t be playing a game without him.
The support working well for Tommy Paul
The little kid’s support or better say the fans’ support is working well for Tommy Paul as the American has secured himself a spot in the pre-quarterfinals. This is the first time Paul has advanced into the pre-quarterfinals at the Flushing Meadows. It has been thrilling three matches for Paul so far.
While the 26-year-old won his opening-round match against Stefano Travaglia in four sets of 6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, Tommy Paul had to fight his way back against compatriot Roman Safiullin. Paul trailed 3-6, 2-6 after the two sets. However, the 26-year-old made a befitting comeback to win the next three sets 6-2, 6-4, 6-3.
In his third-round match, Paul comfortably won the first two sets 6-1, 6-0. Although he stuttered a bit in the third set conceding it 3-6, Paul quickly gathered himself to win the fourth set 6-3. He will now face compatriot Ben Shelton in the next round.
