One of Alcaraz’s remarkable performances has been at the Madrid Open, where he defeated the Top 3 seeds to win his sixth ATP title. He has registered a 57-13 win-loss record and has won nine times against Top 10 players in 2022. On the other hand, the 36-year clinched two Grand Slams in the year. He was undefeated until his fourth-round loss at the US Open. Alcaraz withdrew from the Year-end championship due to an injury, and Nadal failed to go past the round-robin stage. But both the Spaniards hold the Top-2 position in the rankings.

Ferrer has been recently appointed the captain of the national team at the Davis Cup. The former Spanish player admitted that the World No 1 is quite excited to be part of the team as he acknowledged Alcaraz for having the qualities of a leader. He is optimistic about the presence of both Spaniards for the group stage of the Davis Cup. However, he stated that he looks forward to handling the responsibilities that come along with the new role.

Carlos is very excited about the Davis Cup. Carlos Alcaraz has the material of a leader. At the age of 19, being number 1 in the world, Grand Slam champion and assuming that pressure, I have only seen Rafa, Djokovic, and a few others do it. What he is achieving is because he assumes responsibility and pressure. For the best to come, and hopefully, Rafa can come, but it is in his hands,” said Ferrer during an interview.
