No mention of the country name makes Sabalenka different from all previous Grand Slam winners Down Under.

Belarusian star Aryna Sabalenka turned emotional after her maiden Grand Slam title in the Australian Open. In a thrilling encounter lasting for 2 hours and 28 minutes, Sabalenka overcame Elena Rybakina to be crowned Australian Open champion. The fifth seed Sabalenka lost the first set to the Kazakh but after turning the match into the second set did not look back.
With the victory, Sabalenka capped her dream run on Australian soil since the beginning of the season. She is yet to lose a match in 2023. In the fortnight of the Grand Slam, she lost only one set, and that too in the final.
Before the beginning of the tournament, she also won the Adelaide International title reflecting a glorious form. The title win in Melbourne will propel her to 2nd place in the WTA ranking. Being on top of the world, Sabalenka was filled with joy and emotions in the post-match conversation after lifting the trophy.
‘Oh my god, I already have my name! Wow. This is just actually unbelievable. It’s all the stars. All those names,’ she exclaimed when she realized her name was already engraved on the trophy.
But one tiny detail was missing from the trophy that has made social media users furious at the Australian Open.

After receiving the Australian Open trophy from the great Billie Jean King and thanked her for all King has done for women’s tennis. She wept tears of joy and relief after lifting the trophy. But there was one missing detail on the trophy that makes Sabalenka different from all previous Grand Slam winners Down Under.
As Belarus, Sabalenka’s country is not recognized by the WTA the name was left off the trophy. In front of the name of Sabalenka, there was a blank space. This was totally unusual.
