Diego Schwartzman is witnessing in his career what can only be called an ‘armageddon of bad luck’. He has lost 13 out of 14 matches he has played this season. But on top of that he has to face severe criticism from the media and critics. However, this may be the first time he has had to play in front of a hostile audience.

The Argentinian again failed to advance beyond the first-round in an ATP tournament. He lost to local Nicolas Jarry 4-6, 6-4, 6(2)-7(7) in a more than three hour battle. However, he was escorted by security guards out of the court as the audience passionately hurled abuses at him. This made the 30-year old very upset. He talked about this in his post-match interview.

“The truth is that it was a beautiful game to enjoy and watch, and it was brutal at one point, especially when I left the pitch. The amount of insults I received was brutal. Brutal. And it was a very nice game to enjoy. It’s great to be on the court, to play, to get yelled at, but there’s a point when it gets ugly, especially when you’re leaving the court. When the game is over, people can calm down, but they had to take me out with six or seven security people around me. I think it’s not normal ,” he said.

Diego Schwartzman is scheduled to play in the Indian Wells Open 2023 next.

The Argentine player is struggling to maintain his form this season. He has won only one match this season in all the tournaments played till now. In the ASB Classic tournament, in his first match of the season, he had to retire after losing the first set to Jenson Brooksby. He next played in the Australian Open. Here he had to fight his way through against Oleksii Krutykh in his first round match. However, he lost to J.J. Wolf in the next match.

The next stop was Cordoba Open. Here, Diego Schwartzman was knocked out of the tournament by compatriot Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the first round. He was again knocked out in the first round, this time at the Argentina Open after losing to Bernabe Zapata Miralles. At Rio Open, his miserable run continued with a first round loss against Dusan Lajovic.

His loss against Nicolas Jarry in the first round of the Chilean Open is included in the list. He also dropped ranking points and is currently ranked as No.32 in the world.
