Roger Federer ended his illustrious career at the Laver Cup a few days ago after he played his last match- a doubles match with his greatest rival and friend, Rafael Nadal. Federer received the best ever farewell he could’ve hoped for and the whole atmosphere will go down as one of the most emotional nights in tennis history.
Before Federer, another legend of the sport, Serena Williams retired from tennis at the US Open. She lost her third-round match to Ajla Tomljanovic in front of a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium and after losing the match, waved a final goodbye to the tennis world. Serena had announced earlier that the US Open will be the last tournament of her career and received a grand farewell too, just like Federer.
Apart from Serena and Roger, three other big names retired from the sport this year. 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro finally decided to end his career as his injuries wouldn’t have allowed him to compete at the highest level. Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga too bid adieu to the sport while Ash Barty shockingly announced her retirement at 25 earlier this year after winning the Australian Open.
A graphic that was biding adieu to the 5 superstars of the sport caught the eye of tennis fans on social media and they can’t stop talking about it. In the photo, Serena’s image is the biggest followed by Tsonga and Del Potro. In the end, very small pictures of Barty and Federer are used.
Tennis fans upset over the disrespect shown toward Roger Federer
Tennis fans are raising voices because stature-wise, Federer is way much bigger than Barty, Del Potro, and Tsonga, and still, he gets very less space. Fans on social media questioned the graphic designer and called the graphic a ‘joke’.
