The World Tennis League is currently going on in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The tournament is a non-ATP/WTA-affiliated tournament that features four teams, each of which stars renowned players from across the globe. It is a mixed-gender event wherein the teams play several kinds of matches against each other—doubles and singles and battle it out among themselves. 

It is a comparatively light-hearted tournament that is played in New Year’s week. The players usually chill at the WTL and fans have seen several examples of that during this season as well.

Previously, Aryna Sabalenka and Paula Badosa from Team Kites were spotted performing a special dance ahead of their women’s doubles match against Team Eagles. Recently, Elena Rybakina was also spotted grooving to the tunes of popstar Taylor Swift in the WTL.

Elena Rybakina is a part of Team Falcons in the tournament alongside Sumit Nagal, Taylor Fritz, and Sorana Cîrstea. They are arguably the dark horses in the tournament, as they are not as strong on paper as the three other teams. Yet, they have managed to perform decently in the tournament so far. The Falcons have played a total of two matches so far and won one. They defeated the Hawks in their first match and lost their most recent match against the Kites. 

It was during the match between the Falcons and Kites that Rybakina was seen dancing to a Taylor Swift song while a break was going on. When she saw that the camera was capturing her, the Kazakh stopped dancing. Although the Falcons lost their match against the Kites, they are currently second on the points table, and it’s not very bad for the dark horses. 

Elena Rybakina’s Falcons suffer a close defeat to Aryna Sabalenka’s Kites

In the match between Falcons and Kites, Aryna Sabalenka and Co. emerged victorious, but it was a very close win. The women’s doubles set between Elena Rybakina-Sorana Cirstea and Aryna Sabalenka-Paula Badosa was won 7-6 by the Falcons.

The men’s doubles match was also won by Taylor Fritz and Sumit Nagal from Team Falcons, who beat Lloyd Harris and Grigor Dimitrov from Team Kites. They turned it into three consecutive wins when Taylor Fritz and Sorana Cirstea beat Paula Badosa and Lloyd Harris in the mixed doubles match. 

It was the singles matches, however, that made the difference for Team Kites and tipped things in their favor. Grigor Dimitrov beat Taylor Fritz 6-3 while Aryna Sabalenka beat Elena Rybakina 7-6. Thus, Team Kites won the match 33-30 despite winning more sets.
