The Ukraine-Russia war has taken its toll on many aspects of the lives of both countries. Besides people’s lives and geopolitics, sports have been deeply affected because of the conflict. Tennis players are facing a lot of difficulties. The ban on Russian and Belarusian players by ITF led to their withdrawal from the Davis Cup this year. Also, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club went a step further and banned the Russian and Belarusian players from taking part in the Wimbledon.

The year 2022 is drawing to its end. However, there is no end in sight for the Ukraine-Russia war. Meanwhile, The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the US Congress. He gave a passionate speech.

The Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina, who is very passionate about the cause of Ukraine in the war against Russia, shared a photo of the Ukrainian president. In the background, US Vice-President Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi holding the Ukrainian flag as a mark of solidarity and respect for the Ukrainians. She also thanked the American people and US Government for their support to the people of Ukraine.

“The most monumental speech of President Zelenskyy to people of the United States and the Congress! THANK YOU so much for your unwavering support! We will never forget your contribution to our victory!” she wrote on Instagram.

Elina Svitolina is also trying to raise funds for the re-development of Ukraine through the Elina Svitolina Foundation.

Elina Svitolina is one of the most talented players on the WTA professional tennis circuit. She started her career in 2010. Since then, she has won 16 singles and 5 doubles WTA titles. She breached into the Top 10 of the WTA rankings for the first time in his career in 2017, attaining her highest career ranking of World No.3. She became the first Ukrainian woman to do so.

In 2018, she won the WTA Finals. She played in the Semi-final round matches of both the Wimbledon and US Open. However, she lost to eventual champion Simona Halep at SW19 and Serena Williams at Flushing Meadows, respectively. She then made a lot of progress in 2020 and finished the year as World No.5. She also won the bronze medal for Ukraine at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. The Ukrainian got married to French professional tennis player Gael Monfils in 2021. She missed much of the 2022 WTA season because of her pregnancy. Currently ranked as World No.230, she intends to make a comeback to professional tennis.

She is missing professional tennis tours and wants a hasty return to the tennis circuit in the 2023 season. But for this, she realizes she has to get physically and mentally fit again. “I miss the circuit, I miss training, I also miss the fans but what I miss the most is the victory, it’s like a drug. I want to get back in shape, at my best, win matches, and enjoy these moments,” she said in an interview with a French channel.

Elina Svitolina, for now, is busy helping the people of Ukraine as they try to rebuild their lives.
