World No. 27 Elina Svitolina continues to remain inactive from the Tour ever since she took a break after her second-round exit at the 2022 Miami Open where she lost to Heather Watson in three-sets. Elina is one of the many Ukrainian nationals who has her family stuck in the war that has been going on in Ukraine for the last two months since Russia made attempts to invade the European nation.

Svitolina was playing in Doha at the 2022 Qatar Open where she suffered a first-round exit. Since then, Elina vowed to donate all of her appearance fees to humanitarian causes in Ukraine making three tournament appearances till the Miami Open. Post the Miami Open, the former World no. 3 found it difficult to focus on her life as Pro when her family and friends were stuck in the war and decided to take an indefinite break only to return when she could focus on her sport.

Having not played in any clay-court event so far, there was a little glimmer of hope to see the Ukrainian return for the 2022 French Open, but it is now official that the 3-time quarter-finalist in Roland Garros will not be making the trip to Paris for the second Grand Slam of the season, as confirmed by journalist Jose Morgado.

Svitolina first played at the Roland Garros in 2011 but lost in the first round of the qualifying. She tried her luck once again next year but could not make it to the main-draw. She finally made her main-draw debut in 2013 reaching the second round and repeating the result in 2014. Elina made it to the second week of the Grand Slam for the first time in 2015.

She followed it with a 4th round defeat next year to Serena Williams before making it to the quarter-final once again in 2017 losing to eventual runner-up Simona Halep. After consecutive third-round exits in the next two years, Elina reached her third quarter-final in 2020. Last year, she lost in the third round to eventual champion Barbora Krejcikova who clinched a historic double at the Roland Garros last year winning both the singles and doubles title.
