The 2024 Dubai Tennis Championships had everything in its latest season before concluding. Not before a laugh, as the tournament director mixed up while calling out the champion.
The finals took place between Ugo Humbert and Alexander Bublik, as one of them was about to come out as the champion. Both the players worked extremely hard to seal their spot in the finals, but only one had to win, and on this occasion, it was the Frenchman.
From the get-go, Humbert took the lead with an early break, putting him by leaps ahead of his opponent. Soon, the first set was in the name of the Frenchman. It was not long before Humbert had the second set also to his name. He won the match with ease, claiming the title.
However, it wasn’t his name that was called in the prize distribution ceremony, as the tournament director Salah Tahlak had a small slip-up. He announced Humbert as the runner-up, not before realizing the slip-up and apologizing for it. The President who stirred quite a laugh in the finals, said:
I would like to congratulate the champion Alexander and runner-up Ugo for the great match tonight… sorry I think I made a mistake.The President said
As soon as he wrongly announced the names, the fans noticed it and had a good laugh. Fortunately, the President noticed it and brushed it off with an apology.
In-form Ugo Humbert wins his second tournament of the season, as he beat Bublik in a great final
Ugo Humbert, the champion player, started his 2024 greatly. After a third-round run at the Australian Open, he followed it up with a title win in Open 13.
Soon, he had a disappointing first-round exit in Rotterdam, but the 25-year-old picked himself right back and had a great two tournaments after that. First, a quarter-final run in Qatar, followed by his most recent victory in the UAE.
Humbert beat Alexander Bublik, who was off one of the most dramatic matches, to win his second title of the season. With this, the UAE crowned their new champion, and Humbert registered his second title of the season. After a successful Dubai Tennis Championships, the tour shifted its focus to Indian Wells, where many players have decided to make their presence felt.
