Emma Raducanu confirms return on Tour as she looks to build points after crushing defeat in US Open title defence

British teen sensation Emma Raducanu will soon be back on the Tour as she looks to build her form and gain ranking points after falling massively in the WTA rankings following her opening round defeat at the 2022 US Open where the 19-year-old was the defending champion.

Raducanu had been in poor form throughout the season crippled with injuries and fitness issues and the case in New York was no different as her title defence lasted only 100 minutes as she lost to French veteran Alize Cornet in straight-sets in the opening round dropping 2040 points from her tally of 2756 points.

As Emma goes from World No. 11 to outside the Top-80, the Brit does not want to wait for a long time to return and has looked to use the 2-weeks of free time after first round exit from Grand Slam to prepare for a return on the Tour and start adding points in order to finish the season on a good note.

The journey to rise in rankings will start at the WTA Slovenia Open for Emma where she has taken a late entry through a wildcard as the tournament will begin on 12th September in Portoroz, a day after the US Open concludes. It is a WTA-250 event and will be played on hard courts.

Raducanu will be joining reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina and former French Open winner and doubles specialist Barbora Krejcikova although the Czech might withdraw at the last moment given she is in the semis of the US Open and being the highest remaining seed, she can certainly go all the way.

Other confirmed players include Cornet, defending champion Jasmine Paolini, Kaja Juvan, Tamara Zidansek, Clara Tauson, Clara Burel, Marta Kostyuk and the in-form Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia in what promises to be an exciting field as the final few months of the season will begin.

After the campaign in New York, Raducanu is likely to find her rank around the World No. 84 spot and if she plays her card correct and wins the title in Slovenia, which will be her first Tour-level title, Emma can make a massive jump and move closer to the Top-50 with a title.
