“Living under my own little rock,” Emma Raducanu talks of her social media detox post the Australian Open
Emma Raducanu reveals that she went through a social media detox after the Australian Open 2023.
Emma Raducanu
The 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu gives her experience on how she overcame the mental stress following the Australian Open 2023 defeat. With the pressure of being on top, the British star has often failed to play up to the expectations after her maiden Grand Slam triumph in 2021. Currently ranked at 77, the British 20-year-old has already seen both the highs and lows of her tennis career.
As Raducanu said about the social media detox which helped her during the tough times, “After AO (Australian Open) I deleted WhatsApp and Instagram off my phone and after that, I’ve been living under my own little rock.”
She continued on the mentality of people irrespective of how good or bad she is playing, “I felt like sometimes you go through patches where you just want to zone in on yourself and I was very content with my life without it. I’ve learned regardless of what you do, if you do good, if you do bad, people are going to come at you regardless.”
Emma Raducanu advances to the third round in Indian Wells Masters
The British World number 77 Emma Raducanu failed to pass the second round at all the Grand Slam events after her maiden triumph in the US Open 2021. Anyway, she still holds the Open Era record for the fewest majors played before winning a title. The Briton’s controversial decision-making in keeping a coach also contributed to her poor results.
She ended her association with four coaches in the past 24 months. Now she is playing under the German coach Sebastian Sachs. Despite failing to perform consistently on the WTA Tour, her overall earnings were not affected. The 2021 US Open champion is still earning millions through endorsements and brands. The advertisements comprise a major fragment of her earnings. Emma Raducanu’s earnings from her on-court performances are far less than that.
The 20-year-old is currently playing in the Indian Wells Masters. She will face the Brazilian World No.13 Beatriz Haddad Maia in the third round tomorrow. The Briton looked in great touch in the initial rounds as she was able to get past the previous rounds in straight sets.
