Emma Raducanu to part ways with coach Dmitry Tursunov, the Brit will be without a coach for the Canadian Open
Emma Raducanu and Dmitry Tursunov
World No. 10 and British No. 1 Emma Raducanu is all set to return to hardcourt action when she takes the court for the 2022 Citi Open in Washington. Emma will start her preparations for her title defence at the 2022 US Open in the capital and the WTA-250 event will be her first event since her 2nd round exit from the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.
Having fired coach Torben Beltz back in April after just 5 months of working together, Emma has been without a permanent coach and the hunt finally ended last week when the Brit confirmed former Russian player and now coach Dmitry Tursunov will be leading the Brit for the remainder of the season, more importantly for the US Open where a poor result could see her potentially drop out of the Top-100 as she will defend 2000 points having won the Grand Slam last year.
Emma Raducanu seeded 2nd in Washington
many tennis fans were happy that Emma has brought on a good coach with Dmitry earlier working as the head coach of Anett Kontaveit and having guided her to a runner-up finish in the WTA Finals last year while also making her the World No. 2. Anett’s split with Dmitry was due to his nationality as the Ukraine-Russian war has seen a lot of restrictions on the Russians and it caused a problem for Anett to focus on Tour with her coach not being granted a visa easily.
Emma fans will however be upset that the pairing with Dmitry will be on a temporary basis and the Russian will be parting Raducanu camp after this week’s Citi Open. As per journalist Ben Rothenberg, Emma and Dmitry were training together on a trial basis and the Russian has other commitments during the week of the Canadian Open.
Whether Dmitry will join back Emma for the Cincinnati Open and the US Open remains a question as of now. With only 4 weeks for Emma to prepare for the title defence, a lot will depend on her build-up as well which starts with a match against Louisa Chirico in the Citi Open where Emma is the second seed.
