Serena Williams is one of the greatest tennis players of all time and is amongst the greatest sports personalities of all time too. A few weeks ago, the American legend announced that she would be retiring from tennis after the US Open. She came back after a year’s wait in Wimbledon but lost in the opening round.

She then played the Canadian Open where she bowed out of the second round and then lost to Emma Raducanu in the first round at Cincinnati. In the last tournament of her career, Serena will face Danka Kovinic in the first round on Monday night.

During these last few days of her career, tennis fans all around the world including some former players are speaking highly of Serena’s career. American tennis legend John McEnroe recently termed Serena the ‘Greatest of all time’ and put her on the same list as the icons of other sports like Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, and Tom Brady.

“All you need to say about Serena is that she’s put herself in that pantheon of GOATs — Billie Jean King. Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady. That’s where Serena is. She has become like an icon of icons. It probably happened later than it deserved to for her, but it’s here now,” McEnroe said.

Serena revolutionized women’s tennis in the early 2000s and bought the ruthless aggression in the women’s game that was unseen in the men’s game. She is considered to be the greatest server in women’s tennis history. McEnroe pointed it out and said that her serve was better than a lot of men too. He then compared her to Steph Curry, who revolutionized the way basketball was pursued.

“Serena took it to that next level because she had the greatest serve ever, better than a lot of guys,” McEnroe said. “I would compare her in a way, the way she changed it, to Steph Curry. Everyone is shooting 3-pointers, but no one does it as well as him.”
