Eugenie Bouchard fails to register for the 2022 US Open as her hiatus from tennis continues
Eugenie Bouchard
Eugenie Bouchard is a Canadian tennis player. At the 2014 Wimbledon Championships, she became the first player born in Canada representing Canada to reach the final of a Grand Slam tournament in singles. She finished as a runner-up against Petra Kvitová. She also reached the semifinals of the 2014 Australian Open and 2014 French Open. Bouchard received the WTA Most Improved Player award for the 2014 season and reached a career-high ranking of No. 5, becoming the first Canadian player to be ranked in the top-5 in singles.
Bouchard has an aggressive playing style, she focuses more on her powerful groundstrokes, playing from the baseline. During her exceptional season in 2014, she was noticed for her potential to strike the ball hard and flat which allowed her to defeat many players ranked in the top ten and helped her go into deeper stages of Grand Slams.
Eugenie Bouchard’s return to US Open looks uncertain after she is not registered for the qualifiers
Bouchard wounded her subscapularis in March 2021 during a first-round match at the Guadalajara Open. She underwent shoulder surgery last year and she hasn’t appeared in any events since then. She had also withdrawn from the 2022 Wimbledon with no ranking points on offer as the Canadian former world number five blueprints her return to the tennis circuit following surgery last year.
The Canadian who does not appear in the rankings was planning on her comeback but has not registered for the US Open 2022 which will begin on 29th August. The player could however still choose to register for the qualifications as the official list will be announced soon. She was also due to participate in the Washington tournament at the end of the month and the Canadian Open 2022 in early August.
She had received a pass for this first event, but she is not listed among the participants. The former world no. 5 had planned her return to tennis in the Roland Garros and then she shifted it to Wimbledon and then finally to US Open which also looks uncertain now, we hope that if not the North American hard court season, she makes her come back soon.
