As Team Canada lifted their first ever Billie Jean King Cup trophy, the Prime Minister of the country, Justin Trudeau himself came forward to congratulate the team on this historic win and left the team members delighted and proud of their achievements.

Team Canada’s member Eugenie Bouchard expressed her gratitude towards the Canadian PM as she was left in awe after the Prime Minister himself congratulated the team on their first-ever BJK Cup trophy. After the PM posted a heartfelt message on how this victory is a huge one that people will relive and replay for a long time, Bouchard replied, “Thank you Mr Prime Minister!”

Team Canada overcame Team Italy in a well-fought battle to win their first-ever BJK Cup. Impressive performances by the main members of the team, especially Leylah Fernandez, Eugenie Bouchard, and Marina Stakusic, helped Canada to become only the 13th country to win this high-valued Cup.

As the entire country rejoiced at team Canada won their first ever, Billie Jean King Cup at Seville, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau himself drafted a special message for the team congratulating them on this historic feat. Team member Eugenie Bouchard also thanked the PM as she expressed her pride and joy in winning the event.

The first round of the tournament started off with Stakusic facing World No.43, Martina Trevisan. The debutant, Stakusic, managed to secure the biggest win of her career, emerging victorious over the former French Open semi-finalist. This was the first time Stakusic had defeated a top 50 player in her career. She also managed to do it in straight sets.

As the team faced Italy in the finals, the 2021 US Open finalist, Leylah Fernandez, claimed the first-ever Billie Jean King Cup trophy for her nation by triumphing over Jasmine Paolini in 6-2, 6-3 straight sets. Canada won the BJK Cup for the first time since the start of the tournament almost 60 years ago.
