‘Expanding the portfolio’ Serena Williams to join hands with Lewis Hamilton in bid to buy Chelsea Football Club

Former World No. 1 Serena Williams is an accomplished businesswoman as much as she is a tennis player. The 23-time Grand Slam champion has carefully built her portfolio over the years and is one of the richest sporting personalities. With multiple ventures in various fields, the American is looking to explore furthermore.
With the Ukraine-Russia War seeing sanctions on Russian businesses and oligarchs in the UK, London based Chelsea Football Club is one of the affected entities as it is owned by Roman Abramovich, a wealthy Russian businessman and a known close aid of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Roman is believed to be a peace negotiator between Ukraine and Russia as well but so far no success has been achieved on that front.
With the UK being a strong supporter of Ukraine, it was quick to announce sanctions on Abramovich and it eventually affected the Chelsea Football Club as well. With Roman ready to sell the club, the sanctions have ceased any sale so far and restricted the finances of the football club as well including buying new players as no business can be done by the Club apart from selling the players.
Amidst this, in a consortium headed by Martin Broughton, former chairman of Liverpool Football Club, Serena and Formula 1’s legendary driver Lewis Hamilton are set to come together to take over the football club. As per reports, both Serena and Lewis are expected to chip in 12 million Euros each in becoming part-owner of one of the leading football clubs not only in England but in European Competitions as well.
In case, Chelsea is taken over by the consortium, it will join the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal as clubs owned by American businesses. The recent sale of Newcastle United to the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund has been very recent and it would be a good prospect for the club which has been currently binded due to being an asset of a Russian oligarch.
Chelsea Football Club won’t be the first Sporting acquisition of Serena Williams
Among the broad portfolio of Serena which includes her own clothing brand ‘S by Serena‘ and her company Serena Ventures which recently breached the 100 million mark, the tennis legend is also the owner of the Miami Dolphins, a team in the National Football League with an ownership of 0.5% as reported by Forbes. While it is a long time for the deal to go through as it will be monitored closely by the British government, it will nevertheless be exciting to see Serena and Lewis join the Football world as well.
