Tennis fans were stunned at Daniil Medvedev‘s ideal forehand hit against Nicolas Jarry in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open. The defending champion made sure Jarry waited for his first Masters semifinals by beating him 6-2, 7-6.
Medvedev has been at the top of his game recently. The one-time Grand Slam winner, despite losing his No.3 position to Jannik Sinner, showed his class in Miami. He has yet to lose a set and has not played any match for over two hours at the Miami Open.
During the match against Jarry, the Russian was at the peak of his game and showed it with a brilliant forehand. It was captured in slow motion by Tennis TV. Medvedev, who has reached the semifinals of all the tournaments he has competed this season came as no surprise to fans as he defeated Jarry. The only thing missing in the 28-year-old game is a title this season.
Speaking about his performance after the match, Medvedev said he was at the top of his game in the match.
The first set I thought I was playing a good level, not doing anything extra, just enough to win. Then he started to play much better and it was tough rallies, tough points. He served better and it was just a matter of a few points in the tie-break.Daniil Medvedev said
Medvedev has been to two finals this season, losing to Sinner in the Australian Open and Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells Masters. He is reeling from the two disappointing defeats and will be giving his all for the title this time.
Daniil Medvedev to play Jannik Sinner in the semifinals of Miami Open
Daniil Medvedev will play Jannik Sinner in the semifinals of the Miami Open, a rematch of the Australian Open final. The Russian had lost despite winning two opening sets 6-4, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. However, with his experience from the disappointing loss he would be aiming for a sweet revenge against Sinner.
Speaking about Sinner in his postmatch interview, Medvedev hailed the Italian. Here is what he had to say:
He’s playing better and better and he’s confident. Some matches you look at on TV and when he looks to be in trouble he manages to find solutions and that’s what champions do. It’s a great challenge for me and will try to bring my 100 percent.Daniil Medvedev said
Meanwhile, Sinner stands as the favorite to win the semifinal match due to his records. Medvedev leads the Italian 6-4 in head-to-head but Sinner has won all the matches in their last four meetings.
