WTA has again placed its trust in Steve Simon, who has been under pressure from the players for his management techniques. Ever since the WTA Finals, he has faced many problems regarding his actions and his ways of managing tennis. Players such as Coco Gauff, and Aryna Sabalenka have complained about the management for hosting the year-end WTA Finals tournament in Cancun. It has been like eight years now that he has been managing WTA since taking it over from Stacey Allaster. Fans are not happy about the decision the WTA has taken and they have expressed their disregard on Twitter.

After being appointed, Simon said, addressing the media:

My focus will go to, obviously, governance. Managing the respective boards and councils. Working directly with the CEOs of the daily business of the tour. I’ll be able to spend more time on the geopolitical issues that remain very prevalent to the sport and do affect the business. I will spend more time working on the strategic direction of the organization and the challenges that face the organization.

Steve Simon’s thoughts about a possible merger

Steve Simon had given his verdict on the possible merger of the WTA board and also broke his silence over the consistent hate spread on him on his failure to manage WTA.

He revealed clearly that a merger with ATP is not possible and also said that it was never under consideration. He expressed his interest in continuing to grow as a board and taking women’s tennis to a new high.

Here are some of the Twitter reactions:

The question of the merger came through the words of the vice-president of the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation Yuri Polsky. He believed that WTA might cease to exist in the year 2026 and that their merger with ATP might be a way to save women’s tennis. This statement was later denied by Simon as he clearly concluded that WTA is working tirelessly to be an even bigger and flourishing entity in the future.
