“New generation of tennis has arrived”- Fans go wild as “Rune-believable” Holger upsets Novak Djokovic at Paris Masters to win maiden 1000 Masters title and enter ATP Top 10

Holger Rune

The Tennis world erupts as Danish 19-year-old Holger Rune did a “Djokovic” against Novak Djokovic in Paris Masters Final. A younger, harder faster Holger ruined the dreams of the Serbian World No.7 as he completed the Parisian Dream by beating 5 Top-10 ATP players in a row.

The incredible match that had all of its twists and turns ended in 3 sets after 2 hours and 34 minutes with Rune winning 3-6,6-3,7-5. Djokovic looked unbeatable as he won the first set by hitting 11 winners with just 3 Unforced errors but Rune came back strong in the second set.

The third set had all the drama and Djokovic was 3-1 40-30 up at a time. But whenever the Serbian came for the teenager’s legs, he got away with his soul, barely. This Dream Run(e) will go down in the history as one of the most impressive Masters-1000 titles ever considering the draw he had.

The biggest irony of this run is that Holger was a point away from losing in the first round of the tournament even without winning a set against 3-time Grand Slam Champion Stan Wawrinka. He saved 3 match points in that match to survive.

Tennis Twitter is shell-shocked by the teen’s dynamite performance and the way he kept his nerves against the Serbian great. Many consider this the beginning of a new era. Some were even ready to label him as the next big thing looking at the way he out-clutched the Serbian in many of the crucial moments of the match.

Rune‘s current form is already making rounds on the internet with Twitter viewers chiming in to provide their take on his current gameplay. He had one of the toughest draws in the Paris Masters starting with the first-round clash against 3-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka.

This was certainly one of the tightest matches he had to deal with, as he was merely one point away from losing in the first round of the tournament without winning a set. He had to save two match points trailing 15-40 4-5 in the second set. The second-round victory was against Polish World No.10 Hubert Hurkacz, then came Russian World No.9 Andrey Rublev in the third round.

His quarter-final victory was against the Spanish World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz, which again defied the odds. The semi-final victory against Canadian World No.8 Felix Auger Aliassime (6-4,6-2) is even more special since the latter was on a 16-match winning streak, including a victory over World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz.

Then in the final against arguably the best player in the world right now, Novak Djokovic, the Danish World No.18 (soon to be No.10) did something absolutely special. Everything worked for him towards the end and he held his nerve to close the match out before going into a tie-breaker in the final set.
