This year, the season-end Finals of the Women’s Tennis Association(WTA) are scheduled to be held soon in the Mexican city of Cancun. The first-round matches are scheduled to start by the end of this month on October 29. Back-to-back matches will last a full week and the tournament is expected to conclude on the 5th of November. However, pictures showcasing the venue for the tournament events are currently making rounds on the Internet.
On the social media platform X, a user posted a picture of a new stadium under construction in Cancun. “Constructions for the stadium in Cancun for the WTA Finals are underway,” the user posted with a picture of the new stadium under construction. From the picture, one can easily point out the poor planning of the WTA when the season-end Finals are mere days away.
People on the internet questioned the seriousness of the WTA. The organization has come under fire several times in the past as well. A while back, the WTA had revealed that they were planning on hosting the Finals in Saudi Arabia, following in the footsteps of the ATP. However, after tennis fans on the internet and several Tennis players from the Association themselves opposed the idea, the WTA finally announced the Finals would be held in Cancun.
Since the WTA season-end Finals are right around the corner, the news that the stadiums at the venue are still under construction sent several shockwaves over the Internet. Netizens expressed their disbelief at the situation in large numbers. A user on X wrote, “They keep showing no respect for those girls at all through the year, and now this” in reply to the news.

Social Media expresses shock over the WTA’s season-end Finals preparation
As the week-long, season-end Finals hosted by the WTA are scheduled to be held from the 25th of October, many tennis fans were excited over the idea of the Finals being held in the Mexican city of Cancun. However, the excitement over the tournament seems to have fizzled out after pictures of the stadium still under construction in Cancun, emerged on the internet.
In the picture posted by X/@melanie-lautrup, of the unfinished stadium, metal rods can be seen placed for the construction of stands for the spectators. A court is not visible in the picture but instead, a ditch can be seen where the courts will be built. Fans expressed their disappointment with the WTA as they replied to a user’s post which featured the venue in Cancun. Check out some of the reactions below:
Replying to the post featuring the picture of the stadium, @WTAGuadalajara, stated, “And just like a magician, we’re making this stadium appear in less than 30 days!” with a bunch of emoticons. Also being the ones responsible for the construction of the new stadium coming up in Cancun, they further added another picture of the stadium in their reply. @WTAGuadalajara posted a picture of an aerial shot of the place.
It will be interesting to see how the WTA will get the court prepared on time and the looks of it will give the feels of a big event like this. Until then, we will be glued to the pictures of the ongoing construction.
