Novak Djokovic has been the man to beat at Wimbledon over the past couple of years. After claiming four successive Wimbledon titles, the Serbian will be gunning for a fifth straight title next month. Renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou has made a surprising statement comparing Rafael Nadal’s achievements at the French Open and Novak Djokovic’s achievements at Wimbledon.

Patrick Mouratoglou indirectly stated that beating Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon is tougher than defeating Rafael Nadal at the French Open. He believes that defeating Novak Djokovic remains the highest mountain to climb in the sport. This certainly did not go down well with Rafael Nadal’s fans, who took to social media to express their opinion.

Nadal is popularly named the ‘King of Clay’ for his impeccable record on the surface. He has claimed 14 French Open titles and has a record of 112-3 in Paris. The Spaniard’s achievements at the French Open are probably the best in modern sports.

Fans on social media were unhappy with Patrick Mouratoglou’s recent comments. They believe that the Frenchman has repeatedly tried to downplay the Spaniard’s success. The former coach of Serena Williams was reminded of Rafael Nadal’s record in Paris and why it deserves more recognition.

The comments made by Patrick Mouratoglou were aired in Episode 7 of the Netflix documentary ‘Break Point.’ Fans have been divided over the Frenchman’s stance on the same, with some claiming that he does have a valid point on the same.

It is safe to say that beating Rafael Nadal on clay courts, especially at the French Open, remains one of the biggest tasks in the sport. The Spaniard has lost just thrice at the French Open, twice to Novak Djokovic in 2015 and 2021. On the other hand, world number one Novak Djokovic has won seven Wimbledon titles in the last 11 years and is just one more away from leveling Roger Federer’s record of eight Championships.
