Taylor Fritz and his creation
Fans were left in splits after getting a taste of Taylor Fritz’s drawing skills in the aftermath of his first-round win at the Australian Open on Tuesday. The American drew something on the cameras after his victory over Nikoloz Basilashvili, but what it was remained a mystery until Fritz himself revealed it to his fans on Twitter.
The World No.9 rounded off his match and signed the camera, as has become the norm with him. But what Fritz drew caused a stir, with some deeming the image inappropriate. The speculation led Fritz to explain his actions. He tweeted,” For ur information i was trying to draw a ? emoji…. I just forgot the very important fact that I suck at drawing.” This revelation left fans in tatters as they mocked Fritz’s attempt at drawing.
Compatriots Jessica Pegula and Michael Russell saw the funny side of it and reacted with laughing emojis. One fan roasted Fritz saying,”How can a hand be so useful for tennis, yet give it a pen and all hell breaks loose! ?.” Another said,” Lucky you’re good at playing tennis ☺️.”
Many were left relieved that the drawing was not what they thought. Some fans even said Fritz’s drawing made actual artists feel much better about their work. Fritz’s performance in the event before the odd drawing was also praised. Fans expressed happiness with Fritz’s level at the Australian Open and said he was playing well. Fritz hopes to win the next match in Melbourne so he can have another go at drawing an emoji.

Fritz defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia in four sets to advance to the second round. The 25-year-old got the better of Basilashvili under a closed roof activated due to extreme heat. The unusual conditions didn’t deter Fritz, as he met expectations in the match.
The American fired off 32 aces during the match. He also won 84 percent of his first-serve points in the match. Fritz came back brilliantly from 2-4 down to secure the first set and then comfortably won the second. He dropped the third set in his first professional match of 2023. But Fritz was able to close out a win in the fourth set and advance.
The eighth seed admits the seeding and closed roof affected his mentality and game, but he was able to get past it to win the match. He will now face Chun-Hsin Tseng or Aussie wildcard Alexei Popyrin in the second round.
