Taylor Fritz and Jessica Pegula shine in the United cup for the USA and are looking in good form before the Australian Open 2023. Jessica Pegula won 8 of her 9 matches and Taylor Fritz won 7 out of his 8 matches including doubles in the tournament. The mixed doubles pair of them won all the 3 matches they played as well. This was pivotal in the title run of the USA.

Jessica Pegula’s most iconic performance in the tournament was her 6-2,6-2 thrashing of the World No.1 Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals. She was also able to beat Martina Trevisan in the finals 6-4,6-2. Taylor Fritz held his nerves against Matteo Berrettini 7-6(7-4),7-6(8-6). He was also able to beat Hubert Hurkacz in the semi-finals and his sole loss was against Cameron Norrie.

Novak Djokovic leads the top contenders for the title in men’s singles overall. There is no single top contender in the women’s side after Iga Swiatek’s downfall in the United Cup against Pegula in straights.

Taylor Fritz and Jessica Pegula didn’t confine their amazement at the United title run by Team USA. During the title celebrations, Fritz told, “It’s amazing for the team to win this event. We came in with really high hopes, or at least I did, for the event so I was really happy to be in that position to clinch the match. The emotions when you win and everyone comes running out here, it’s amazing.‘”

Pegula talked about the pressure she had to endure to play against Martina Trevisan, “Definitely very relieved. The first match of the day, first match of the final, and Martina’s playing great. She’s a fighter, she’s competing and I feel like she’s thriving off the atmosphere here with the fans and her team and it’s really hard to beat someone like that“.

Frances Tiafoe also had an exceptional tournament as he won 5 out of 5 matches including a mixed doubles victory with Jessica Pegula. Madison Keys and Stefanos Tsitsipas were the other undefeated players in the tournament. In fact, Tsitsipas is the most successful player in terms of wins. He won 7 out of 7 matches. Keys was able to win 5 out of 5 matches she played.
