Father Srdjan alleges Novak Djokovic faces discrimination in “high-class” tennis world for being East European

Novak and Srdjan Djokovic
Novak Djokovic’s father Srdjan has suggested that his son does not enjoy as much respect as some of the other popular names such as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal because tennis is still a bourgeoisie sport, having been created by Englishmen.
“Novak isn’t giving any reasons not to be loved. Why is that happening? I don’t know. Probably because it’s a bourgeoisie sport, because it was created by the Englishmen for their high class. Then some Serb shows up from a small, poor country, and he is the best in their sport for the past 15 years – now it’s our sport too,” Srdjan told a Serbian podcast called Biznis priče.
“They have to accept that the centre of the tennis world has shifted to Eastern Europe, to the East of the world. They will have to accept that, whether they like it or not,” Djokovic’s father added.
Srdjan says son Novak Djokovic is fighting for equality
Early in 2022, Srdjan was furious over the poor treatment of his son and lashed out at the Australian authorities for putting Novak into isolation. Srdjan was the first to confirm that Novak was taken into isolation by the airport security and Djokovic Sr. had threatened to take to the streets in protest when Novak had already spent over 5 hours in a room at the airport.

Speaking to Serbian outlets, Srdjan had remarked, “Novak will become a symbol and a leader of the free world, the leader of oppressed countries and peoples. My son is in captivity but he has never been so free. Novak will become a symbol and a leader of the free world, the leader of oppressed countries and peoples. It showed that even a small heroic country like Serbia can have the greatest athlete of all time.
“Tonight they can throw him in a dungeon, tomorrow they can put him in chains. The truth is he is like water and water paves its own path. Novak is the Spartacus of the new world which won’t tolerate injustice, colonialism and hypocrisy. Novak fights for the equality of all the peoples of the planet,” Srdjan had added further as Novak was deported from Australia and had to skip the first Grand Slam of the year.
