“Finally the criminal decided to obey the law,” Fans take a jibe at Novak Djokovic over his withdrawal from Montreal Masters
Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic, the 35-year-old Serbian is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time by millions around the world. He has 21 Grand Slam titles to his name, the latest of which came at this year’s Wimbledon after Djokovic beat Nick Kyrgios in the finals of the event.
The Serbian has always been surrounded by controversies ever since the pandemic, mostly due to his stance regarding the Covid-19 vaccine and Djokovic’s stance on staying unvaccinated. He has missed out on many tournaments due to this vaccination status like the Australian Open earlier this year when he was deported and now the upcoming US Open where his entry is highly unlikely.
Twitter reacts as Novak Djokovic withdraws from the National Bank Open
Coming up next week, Novak Djokovic has decided to withdraw from the National Bank Open in Montreal. Winning the event four times in the past, Djokovic will not be in the running for a fifth as he announced his decision to not participate in the tournament. Evidently the decision came through keeping in mind the rules of the country to not allow unvaccinated foreigners in the country.
Djokovic decided to withdraw from the tournament a day before the draws came out and the defending Wimbledon is still hoping for some miracle to participate in the US Open through a special exemption, but that possibility seems almost impossible as the organizers of the US Open already made it clear that they will be following the rules of the US government regarding immigration according to which unvaccinated foreigners are not allowed to enter the country and the same rules stand for Novak Djokovic.
Fans took to Twitter to express their displeasure after hearing the news of the Serbian’s withdrawal, some fans were ever seen making fun of the 21-time Grand Slam winner and questioning his decision to take part every time when he just has to withdraw from every event.
