Simona Halep has not played competitive tennis for almost a year now. The Romanian last competed at the 2022 US Open. Following that, she was provisionally banned from competing after a doping test came back positive. She tested positive for a substance that has been banned for use by the authorities.

Simona Halep pleaded that she was innocent and was determined to prove that she did no wrong. Many tennis players backed the two-time Wimbledon champion in this regard, and Halep eventually was able to find the source of the banned substance. However, the case dragged on, as the hearing got delayed by a couple of months.

Former Romanian tennis player Ion Tiriac suggests that Halep should demand 100-200 million euros for ruining her career. He believes she is losing valuable playing time, as she has been on the sidelines for almost a year. She suffered from a calf injury in 2021, which forced her to miss several important events. Moreover, the 2018 French Open champion was handed a provisional ban when she was getting back to her best.

Ion Tiriac believes Simona Halep should go all guns blazing in her fight to prove her innocence. Just prior to her scheduled court hearing a couple of months ago, irregularities were found in her biological passport. The tennis player quickly took to social media, stating that the double allegations were baseless and it was nothing but mental torture.

“In my opinion, they have finished Simona’s career, and someone has to answer here. How much can Simona ask for? 100 million, 200? Who is the culprit? Someone, however, is guilty, but it is sad what is happening to Simona.  I don’t compare it to the fact that we are Romanians or I don’t know what. When someone slaps you, if you don’t slap them back – my father taught me 80 years ago – it means you’re a servant and only on your knees, said Tiriac.

It looks uncertain as to whether Simona Halep could return to action any time soon. Since she will turn 32 in a couple of months, Simona Halep is certainly not getting any younger. Hence, Ion Tiriac has suggested her fellow Romanian demand 100-200 million for ruining her career.
