Maria Sharapova is the only Russian woman to win a Grand Slam

Maria Sharapova was one of the crowd favourites as fans loved her aura and her eye catching tennis all over the globe. Even after so many, Sharapova remains the only Russian woman to win a Grand Slam.
It was a treat to see Sharapova fight it out against Serena Williams as the two had a great rivalry going on for a few years. Sharapova won her first Grand Slam back in 2004 when shen defeated then two time defending champion Serena Williams at the Wimbledon.
Her Grand Slams have come at intervals which is pretty fascinating to see and it means she was exceptional for quite a while but was unable to convert her deep runs into titles.
Sharapova won the US Open title in 2006 and then again two years later she bagged the Australian Open. Similarly her last Grand Slam was in 2012 as he completed her Career Slam with the French Open title. The Russian is also a silver medalist at the 2012 London Olympics.
She ended a very successful career with a total of 39 career titles, which included three that she won in doubles. She also took the summit and was World No.1 for some time amid a lot of competition from everywhere.
