Bjorn Borg, the former World No. 1 and winner of 11 Grand Slam titles has been the long-serving captain of Team Europe in the Laver Cup which started back in 2017 and has been held on 4 occasions so far. Borg has coached the team to victory on all 4 occasions and will be looking to make it 5 consecutive titles this year when the 2022 Laver Cup is played in the O2 Arena in London from 23rd to 25th September.

Borg and Team Europe will be super excited this year as 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic is confirmed as the 4th player this year. Djokovic joins Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray on the team sheet making a dream lineup as the Big-4 of Tennis comes together at the competition for the first time ever. Murray will make his Laver Cup debut this year while Djokovic returns to the camp for the first time since 2018. Federer and Nadal were also absent in 2021 and will be returning once again for the event.

Having won the previous four editions already, Team Europe is always the favourite going against John McEnroe‘s Team World. The closest Team World came was in 2019 when the Europeans captured the title with a score of 13-11. At the 2021 edition, however, Team Europe won with a score of 14-1 in a thumping victory. Djokovic’s addition is a major boost and Borg was happy to have the Big-4 together.

“I don’t think I could have imagined having these four icons of the sport on one team together. I know they, like I, appreciate the significance of this moment and will be truly up for it. Each year our goal is to win. With Rafa, Roger, Andy and Novak on the team, I like our chances,” said Borg as per the official site of Laver Cup.

With the event seeing players compete in both singles and doubles, the Big-4 as doubles partner will be a great sight for tennis enthusiasts who will be looking forward for the competition excitedly. For Team Europe, two more players are yet to be confirmed whereas for Team World, so far Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz and Diego Schwartzman have been confirmed with three more spots to be filled for this year’s Laver Cup.
