Frances Tiafoe recently commented on the current scenario in men’s tennis, as the Big Three era gradually comes to an end. Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic in the finals of Wimbledon last month, which is viewed as the changing of guards. The American opined on players to beat other than the Spaniard in his US Open press conference.
Frances Tiafoe believes that Novak Djokovic is still certainly up there at the top, as he continues to remain the man to beat at big events. However, he predicts that there will be no clear dominant player on the tour, as their dominance could come and go in waves. He listed out a couple of players whom he thinks could compete for the biggest prizes in the near future.
“Changing of the guard, for sure. Now we have a new one, Alcaraz is definitely the guy to beat if you want to do anything special in this game. Yeah, I think it’s going to come in waves. I think we’re probably going to have a couple more guys who are going to be pretty dominant,” said Tiafoe.
Frances Tiafoe claims Daniil Medvedev is among the biggest players on hard courts
Frances Tiafoe believes that Daniil Medvedev continues to remain among the most dangerous players on hard courts. This is despite his poor performances on this surface this season. The Russian managed to claim the US Open title back in 2021, when he defeated Novak Djokovic in the finals.
Frances Tiafoe predicts that Alexander Zverev could be among the other big names in the upcoming years. The German is slowly getting back to his best form, as the American realizes the threat he poses.
“I think Medvedev is still very dominant, one of the biggest hard court players in the world. Obviously Nole. Zverev is playing much better again. He’s going to be a tough ask. Game is in a little different place. A little different dynamic. I’m happy to be in this era, for sure,” said Tiafoe.
Frances Tiafoe is seeded 10th at the 2023 US Open, as he hopes to go a couple of steps further than his semifinal appearance last time around. He managed to reach the last four last year, where he was defeated by the eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz in five sets.
