Serbian Tennis star Novak Djokovic was visibly struggling during his US Open 2023 final match against Russia’s Daniil Medvedev. After winning the first set by a clear 6-3 margin, the 23-time Grand Slam winner is apparently very tired and the long rallies that the Russian is forcing him to play are making things worse for him. Novak has already started to commit a few errors here and there, which let Daniil Medvedev make a stunning comeback in the second set.
It has been long known that the extreme conditions of the US Open are physically taking a toll on the players. Although they have now become kind of accustomed to playing while being drenched in sweat, it definitely makes things extremely difficult for them. Novak Djokovic faced something similar in the second set of his Final against Daniil Medvedev, as he started cramping in the second set itself despite the match being played with the roof closed.
Both Novak and Medvedev are players of the highest caliber, and they are playing long rallies quite often in the match, which is tiring both players. However, the effect can be seen more clearly in Serbian. In the second set, he was clearly tired and his legs were gone. The 36-year-old even found it difficult to get first serves. Thus, when he made a perfect serve down the T line and it was called let by the umpire, Djokovic was furious and was seen shouting at him.
Daniil Medvedev has some good prior experience of playing against Novak Djokovic at the highest level. In fact, it was him who Medvedev defeated in the 2021 US Open final to win the first (and so far the only) Grand Slam of his career.
Brad Gilbert criticises Let Machine at US Open

Coco Gauff’s coach Brad Gilbert took to Twitter during the US Open 2023 Men’s Singles final between Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic to take a dig at the tournament’s let machine. “The let machine has had absolutely Terrible tournament calls phantom let’s all the time.”
He made the comment after the umpire’s controversial let call during the final between Djokovic and Medvedev that deprived the Serbian’s perfect serve down the T Line. Moreover, the incident took place at a time when the 23-time Grand Slam winner was all tired due to long rallies and had apparently started to cramp. It frustrated him and Novak Djokovic was seen protesting and shouting at the umpire.
