“Frustrating being unable to play” Novak Djokovic stands firm with his Wimbledon stance ‘having experienced something similar’

Novak Djokovic suffered an unfortunate incident at the Australian Open where he wasn’t allowed to compete given his unvaccinated status and the country’s policies. This impacted Djokovic severely as he looked out of sorts in the subsequent tournaments. He even suffered a first-round exit in Monte-Carlo. Djokovic is looking in better shape with his final visit to the Serbia Open 2022. He suffered a loss at the hands of Andrey Rublev in front of his home crowd.

Novak Djokovic is back in Madrid for the Madrid Open 2022 so that he can get in his top form when the French Open begins and try to defend his title at Roland-Garros. Wimbledon has decided to ban the Russian and Belarusian players in response to the ensuing Russia-Ukraine War.

Djokovic had already voiced his opinions on the Wimbledon matter. He said that he understood that war is quite devastating and all, but tennis should be kept away from politics, and the imposition of a ban on the individual players who just play for themselves, doesn’t make much sense.

His sentiments are further echoed when he said: “It’s not the same thing, but going through something similar earlier this year for myself, it’s frustrating knowing that you’re not able to play. I still stand by my position that I don’t support the (Wimbledon) decision. I think it’s just not fair, it’s not right.”

He means to say that it’s never a good experience being barred from a tournament. It’s frustrating for the player to know that by no fault of his own, he won’t be able to compete for one of the biggest titles in tennis. Rafael Nadal also echoed a similar sentiment of disagreement with Wimbledon’s decision to impose the ban on the players based on their belonging to a certain country. The situations are nothing less than extraordinary but many in the tennis world seem to disagree with this decision by the LTA.
