French professional tennis player Gael Monfils is 37-year years old, and most tennis players tend to retire at this age. However, he just recently became a father and revealed in one of the press conferences from the 2023 Laver Cup that he has to juggle his duties as a professional tennis player and a father. Although being a father is one of the wholesome feelings, juggling both duties together is quite difficult, gradually shifting the imminent date of the Frenchman hanging up his racket. 

“I don’t have 10 years left. I have maybe one, two, or three. They can see how I’m enjoying it. I was 18, and now I’m 37. They may appreciate me differently. The vibes you put out on the court are different now. I love playing the big matches, but my priorities are somewhere else now. The toughest thing for me is that I want to be with my daughter as much as I can. But I still really love my routine and the sport,” said Monfils.

He is currently playing for Team Europe in the 2023 Laver Cup. So far, two matches of the Laver Cup have been played, and Team World has a 2-0 lead. In the first match, Ben Shelton beat Arthur Fils 7-6 (7-4), and in the second match, Francisco Cerundolo beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 7-5, without any struggles at all.

Gael Monfils, who is on Team Europe, will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the third match of the tournament. Although his team is apparently losing the tournament this year, he is expected to win the match over the Canadian. Later, he also has his doubles match against Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton.

Gael Monfils has been happily married to Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina since July 2021, when they tied the knot in a wedding ceremony in Geneva. The couple had been dating since 2018 and announced their engagement in April 2021. Although Monfils and Svitolina split up once while they were dating, that seems irrelevant now after their marriage. 

On October 16, 2022, the couple gave birth to their first child, Skai Monfils. After her birth, Elina Svitolina took a long break from tennis to look after herself, and following that, she made a brilliant comeback. Thus, the two players have been happily married since 2021 and are one of the most powerful couples in the world of tennis.
