World No. 2 Novak Djokovic has earned himself another honorary achievement after his impressive comeback win against Laslo Djere in the third-round encounter of the ongoing US Open. Dritan Abazovic, the Prime Minister of Montenegro, had announced moments after the match that the Serbian would receive an honorary passport from the country.
The Prime Minister talked about the kind of respect he has for Nole and his family and went on to talk about the kind of future he is thinking of. He expects Novak to visit his country and meet the people in Montenegro, bringing a good future for the country in terms of tennis. At last, he even considered Novak to be a ‘global brand’ rather than linking him to Serbia or Montenegro.
Abazovic added, “He is a big fan of Montenegro, he often stays there, what could be better than being gathered by people around whom we have undivided opinions. Around which it is easy to animate others to follow their example, even if it is unattainable.”
Continuing his train of thought, he further added, “In general, I think that sports help us a lot to overcome some of the adversities we have, political or economic, in a much easier way. My full support, to the people who are a global brand. They are not a brand of Serbia or Montenegro, they are a global brand.”
Who will Novak face in the fourth round?
Novak Djokovic has made his intentions clear with the kind of storm he has raised through his intensive gameplay at the ongoing US Open. Having already made it past the third round and is in contention for his fourth US Open title, he will be up against Borna Gojo, a player who is not even ranked in the Top 100 list of male tennis players.
The Croatian has had it the hard way into the round of 16 stage making it past the qualifying stages. This will be the first time that he will be up against the 23-time Grand Slam winner. It would be coming as a shock to many but Gojo is yet to drop a single set in the US Open this year winning all his main-round games in straight sets up against Hugo Dellien, Mackenzie McDonald, and, Jiri Vesely.
