23-time major champion Serena Williams is currently on a farewell run at the US Open and stunned Anett Kontaveit in the second round after beating Danka Kovinic in the first round. Williams, who is 40, announced a few weeks ago that she’ll be retiring from tennis after this US Open. Due to her form before the US Open, many believed that Williams would lose in the very first round and end her career but she pleasantly surprised everyone by winning two matches convincingly.
Especially in the second round, Williams stunned World No.2 Kontaveit and is now a serious contender to go deep in her section of the draw. She will now face Australian Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round on Friday night at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Like her previous two matches, the Arthur Ashe Stadium is once again sold out for her matches.
During her second-round match, apart from fans flooding the stadium, many eminent personalities came to see Serena play for one last time. Along with Serena’s dear friend and golfing legend Tiger Woods, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Actress Zendaya, and models Gigi and Bella Hadid were some of the big names that came to see Serena.

Renowned businesswoman and social media personality Kim Kardashian took to social media to celebrate Serena’s immaculate career and her massive second-round win over Kontaveit. She reshared one of the US Open’s posts on her Instagram story with a ‘GOAT’ emoji. It is a well-known fact that Kim loves tennis and like many, is a huge Serena Williams fan.
Currently, Serena played doubles with her sister Venus after a long time but unfortunately bowed out of the first round. She will now directly take the court on Friday night to face Tomljanovic.
