In a recent addition to the Nick Kyrgios-Bernard Tomic feud, Kyrgios has once again added fuel to the fire by laughing off Tomic’s recent ITF Futures victory in Mexico. A few days ago, after Kyrgios said that he didn’t want to play someone in the top 800 of the world, Tomic had called him “obsessed” and “scared.”

The heat dates back to May this year when Tomic had challenged Kyrgios to a million-dollar match or even a boxing bout, depending on what his opponent wanted. However, Kyrgios was quick to turn down that challenge saying he had better things to do in the tennis world and that if Tomic really wanted to face him, he could do so by climbing up the rankings, adding he himself wasn’t going anywhere.

Then too, Kyrgios had mockingly commented on a photo of Tomic’s recent results and written, “Bernard, I didn’t realise it was this bad. I low key feel bad now. Hit me up if you need me to help you remember how to play. Geezuz.” Although the two have never played each other on the ATP tour, Tomic was once regarded as Australia’s best singles player while Kyrgios was steadily rising up the ranks. However, they have faced each other in exhibition matches and other smaller tournaments.

Some fans also mocked Tomic by concluding that he was nowhere close to Kyrgios while still competing in ITF events.

Nick Kyrgios regrets losing US Open chance

Kyrgios recently reflected on his US Open quarterfinal defeat to Russia’s Karen Khachanov, saying the match hurt him a lot as he believed he was the favorite to win the title after beating Daniil Medvedev.

“I thought the US Open was a great chance – obviously, that one really, really hurt because I definitely thought that I was the favourite after I beat [Daniil] Medvedev,” he said.

Kyrgios made the statements while speaking to reporters in Tokyo, where he is due to compete in both singles and doubles after taking a few weeks off. The Australian did not compete at the recently concluded Laver Cup for the first time in the history of the competition.

Over the years, Kyrgios had tried his best to help Team World turn the tables and beat a star-studded Team Europe side in the new format but had agonizingly come short. This year, however, Team World won the tournament for the first time thanks to some inspiring performances from the likes of Frances Tiafoe and Felix Auger Aliassime.
