There has been a lot of fuss in recent times regarding the next big stars in tennis. After two decades-long performances from the Big-3 of the sport, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic have already progressed to the end of their careers. With many next-gen prospects already in line and playing eye-catching tennis, Djokovic’s coach, Goran Ivanisevic gives his views on whether or not the likes of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz can make it to the top.

In an interview with Serbian media outlet, Sportske Novosti, Goran Ivanisevic was asked a couple of tough questions where he fired massive verbal shots and also talked about Novak’s recent loss at the Wimbledon Championships. While talking about the probable winners in the upcoming US Open, he shared his view on the recent fuss regarding the new ‘Big-3’ tag.

He said, “These ‘Big 3’ stories again are ridiculous. It’s been 6 or 7 years since the change took place. Look at Rublev, Medvedev, Alcaraz, Sinner. Carlos has already been in place for 2 years, and Medvedev has been there for five or six years already, he is 27 years old. This is not from yesterday.” It has been clear from his expressions that Goran is not a fan of the idea of contrast people are drawing with the young stars against the former greats of tennis.

Will there ever be another Big-3 in tennis?

While there will continue to be a debate regarding the next big things in tennis, the history books will never fall short of explanations to define what the three pillars of modern tennis have done in the past two decades. Talking about the Djokovic-Nadal-Federer era, it is fair to say that no tennis player came close to matching them in terms of greatness while they were in their prime.

From clinching title after title to sitting week after week in the peak of the ATP rankings, if domination and consistency had any other synonym it has to be these ‘Big-3’. There will forever be a benefit of the doubt or a pinch of comparison between players such as Alcaraz, Sinner, and Rune against these three, but it is simply beyond description what they have achieved in the past and it would simply be unfair to relate them with any other player in the future.
