Carlos Alcaraz is simply getting better with every game as he defeats Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the 2022 Madrid Open. The young Spaniard showed great tenacity and nerves to beat the Serb (5)6-7,7-5, 7-6(5) and reach his second ATP 1000 Masters title in the Spanish capital.

The 19-year-old dropped a masterclass in front of a packed crowd at the Manolo Santana Stadium as they spurred on in a gruelling 3 hour 56 minutes semifinals clash against the 20-time Grand Slam winner. Carlos Alcaraz’s journey to the final makes him the youngest finalist in the Madrid Masters. The soon to be World No.6 defeated Rafael Nadal in a three-set thriller and followed it up with another gruelling encounter in the semifinals against Novak Djokovic. Hence becoming the first player to beat Nadal and Djokovic on the clay surface.

Alcaraz also broke a 17 year long record as he became the youngest player to beat the World No.1. The last record was held by his idol Rafael Nadal as the Spaniard defeated the then World No.1 Roger Federer back in the 2004 Miami Open.

After the epic semifinal clash, Novak Djokovic shared a great moment with Alcaraz on the court and then followed it up with a heartfelt message as the Serb wished him luck for the finals. He also believes that there are far greater things to come from the Spanish youngster in the upcoming years. He took to Twitter to wish Carlos Alcaraz as he wrote, “Great things to come from this talent in the future. Good luck in the final tomorrow!”

Carlos Alcaraz’s job is far from over as he will feature in the finals of the Madrid Open against defending champion Alexander Zverev. The big German has defeated Monte Carlo Masters winner Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinals which was also a very epic three-set clash. So it won’t get any easier for the teenage sensation as he aims to win the Madrid Open title in front of his home crowd.

It is unsurprising that Zverev leads the head to head record against Alcaraz as the German has faced him twice in the past and have won both times. But the context is different here as the 19-year-old is playing much better tennis than earlier and is oozing with confidence by beating both Nadal and Djokovic in consecutive games. So he will be looking to give his all in the finals.
