Grigor Dimitrov recently won his 400th match of his career in the Chengdu Open, defeating Pablos Varillas. He is only the 11th active player to register 400 career wins. The former World No.3 and 3-time Grand Slam Semi-Finalist talked about his recent achievements in an interview with the ATP Tour.
Talking about his career, Grigor Dimitrov said, “Tennis is not everything. The career, if you think about it, it comes and goes.” He mentioned that in tennis, he never really had a goal in mind regarding the number of wins, although he was happy winning his 400th match, which he achieved by defeating Pablos Varillas, 6-3,6-4.
Grigor Dimitrov spoke about how these milestones motivate him to do well not only in tennis but also in his personal life. He believes they push him to excel and consider his broader life goals, not just in tennis but beyond it. Dimitrov also highlighted that tennis isn’t his sole priority; he has other important aspirations.
Dimitrov seemed very content with his 400th career win and talked about how his love for the game has never changed after staying on Tour for 14-15 years of his life. He added, “I’m a person that loves the game and I’ve, in a way, lived for the game. You just never know how it is going to be, but I’ve been on Tour for 14 years now so it’s nice when you have that approval and you’ve done it yourself out there.”
Grigor Dimitrov talks about the possibility of winning 500 career matches
The Bulgarian is currently ranked 20th in the World and has always given his best on court. He has also reached an understanding regarding life that tennis is only a small part of it and not the entire thing. Dimitrov talked about how nothing will last forever, but he wanted to play and enjoy the sport for as long as possible.

Grigor Dimitrov doesn’t set targets for his tennis career, rather he simply loves the game and is dedicated to it. He hopes to win more matches, even though there are uncertainties in the sport. He also said that he wants to keep giving his best. While cheekily suggesting that his career is not over yet, Dimitrov said, “Who knows, maybe I’ll reach 500?”
