Grigor Dimitrov admitted that he wants to drink one extra glass from the ‘Fountain of Youth’ after losing to Jannik Sinner in the Miami Open final. The Bulgarian showed spirit and strength but couldn’t keep up with the momentum of Sinner, as the ten-year age gap made the difference.
Dimitrov has been one of the most in-form players on the ATP this season. The 32-year-old defeated Holger Rune in January to win the Brisbane International.
Despite a poor Australian Open outing, he surged at the Vienna Open, reaching the semifinals before losing to Alex de Minaur. However, at the Miami Open, the Bulgarian showed class, beating Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev en route to the final. But a clinical Jannik Sinner beat him 6-3, 6-1 in less than 90 minutes to win the Masters event.
During his post-match interview, Dimitrov was asked whether he loved to drink from the Fountain of Youth after being torn apart by Sinner. The Bulgarian said he looks forward to what is next for him.
I should have had maybe one more glass of that juice. Unfortunately, 10 years made a huge difference today (smiling) But overall, I just want to focus on the positives this week. It’s been a tournament I have not been able to do well I think in the past years.Grigor Dimitrov said in post match presser
Dimitrov would not be playing at the Estoril ATP 500, which starts on April 1. However, he will play in his first European clay event at the Monte Carlo Masters, which begins on April 7.
In a way, it was also a goal of mine to come out here and give my best shot. I need to look forward to whatever is next for me. I don’t think I have much time to be down on myself. I just want to embrace this moment as well. So I think this is the next step for me. Now we start with the clay, so this is something I’m looking forward to.Continuing further, he added
Grigor Dimitrov hails Jannik Sinner for playing amazing tennis
Grigor Dimitrov hailed Jannik Sinner for playing amazing tennis after losing to the Italian at the Miami Open. The 32-year-old, despite losing, would be proud of his run in Miami after beating three Top-10 players.
However, it was Sinner who separated him from the title and has hailed the 22-year-old’s brilliance.
It’s definitely Jannik’s week, as he has been playing amazing tennis. It’s really impressive how he’s been able to keep that way of playing.
On the other hand, Dimitrov would be heading into the difficult clay season with optimism after reaching three finals and four semifinals already this season.
