Jessica Pegula has been very consistent this year, especially in the grand slams. She started the year by reaching the quarterfinal of the Australian Open. She then made it to the semifinal of the Miami Open and also reached the final of the Madrid Open on clay. She once again had a quarterfinal outing at the French Open and has also reached the semifinals and quarterfinals at Toronto and Cincinnati respectively.

At the US Open, she once again reached the quarterfinal before losing to Iga Swiatek once again. In the second round this week at Guadalajara, Pegula battled past Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in three sets 2-6,6-3,7-6(8).

Coming back from an injury, Bianca Andreescu started her season on clay at Stuttgart. Her best result on the red dirt was a quarterfinal outing in Rome as she bowed out of the second round of the French Open. On grass, she reached the final of the Bad Homburg Open but lost to eventual champion Elena Rybakina in the second round at Wimbledon.

At the US Open, she made it to the third round. This week in Guadalajara, she defeated Jil Teichmann in the first round before getting the better of Petra Kvitova in the second round in three sets 3-6,6-2,6-0.

Pegula will go in as the favorite but her first match of the tournament must’ve drained a lot out of her. Andreescu is slowly getting back in form and is eagerly looking for a big win.
