Jessica Pegula has been very consistent this season and has stomped her authority in the WTA circuit. She started the season by making it to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and also reached the semifinal of the Miami Open. Victoria Azarenka is one of the most experienced players on tour and despite not being at her best, she can be pretty deadly at times. She started the reason with a Round of 16 outing at the Australian Open but underperformed massively in the next few months. Her next best performance came at the French Open where she reached the third round. At the US Open, she once again made it to the Round of 16.

In the first round at Guadalajara this week, she eased past Elina Avanesyan in the first round and then stunned top seed Paula Badosa in the second round. She notched up a tough victory over Madison Keys in the quarterfinals and then defeated Coco Gauff in the semifinals in three sets 7-6(2),4-6,6-3.
