Seeded No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz has had a great season so far, winning 37 matches and he also has a 22-2 record on clay. Having already won four titles this season namely, the Miami Open, the Rio Open, the Barcelona Open and the Madrid Masters he is on his hunt to grab the fifth. He started the German Open on a high and being the top seeded player he has lived up to the expectations as well. He beat Nikola Kuhn in the first round and then defeated Filip Krajinovic in the round of 16 tie. He then went onto beat Karen Khachanov with a 6-0, 6-2 win to book his place in the semifinals.
On the other hand, Alex Molcan has had a great season this year having managed to win 22 matches from the 36 he has played. He was also the runners-up at the Marrakech Open and the Lyon Open. He started the German Open after a solid display at the 2022 Wimbledon having managed to pick up straight-sets wins over Pedro Martinez and Marcos Giron but at the end lost to Taylor Fritz in the third round. He started the German Open with victories against Marko Topo and then went onto beat the defending champion Pablo Carreno Busta with a stunning performance. Molcan was close to the victory in the quarter finals but Borna Coric retired due to injury when the match was nicely poised at 7-6(7), 2-0.
